Adventure
Abe, Noah and I went on a summer adventure. We talked about doing this last summer but couldn't catch the Ferry on the right day for Noah's schedule so this trip was on our bucket list. Adam was in Austin so couldn't join us.
July 20, 2015 we left Vancouver B.C. to catch a Ferry in Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo (Vancouver Island) and then drove to Port Hardy which was about a 6 hour drive.
We had to wake up very early for us (5:15am) the next morning to catch the 6:30am Ferry at Port Hardy to Prince Rupert. It took us awhile to get on the ferry to Prince Rupert..... The Ferry left Port Hardy late because one of the car's pulling a trailer had an oil or gas spill once it drove up on the Ferry and they had to clean it up which delayed us close to an hour. Always interesting.....Anyway the Ferry ride from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert is about 16 hours. During the first part of the ferry ride it was a bit turbulent and I had to mentally keep myself from getting seasick. I remember being seasick once a long time ago and I vowed I would never let this happen again (Mind over Matter). Anyway......The ferry ride was simply beautiful.. Did see more than one whale spouting water and breaching..... didn't get a picture.... Over the years I've seen many whales and will never get tired of seeing them. About 4-5 years ago we took a cruise from Vancouver to Alaska (near Anchorage and this 16 hour ferry ride reminded me of the many days we spent on this cruise. I highly recommend doing the cruise because the scenery is breathtaking.
We finally arrived in Prince Rupert, close to midnight and immediately went to our hotel. I highly advise making hotel reservations before you start this journey (In Port Hardy and Prince Rupert). Hotels book up and both of the towns are very small. Port Hardy wasn't much of a place to visit but we really liked Prince Rupert. We found a nice locally owned coffee shop and many nice shops. I would;t recommend spending more than one day there but definitely worth walking around. After sitting in the car and being on the boat...... BOY DID WE NEED TO STRETCH OUR LEGS.
Our PLAN was to take the Ferry to Prince Rupert and then to drive back to Vanocuver, B.C. which we did and it took us probably over 20 hours to drive back. It was a beautiful drive and took us many days because we try to never be in a hurry. We saw lots of Rainbows, lots of beautiful scenery, visited a few Casinos (pretty much just slot machines and not easy to win) although Abe and Noah seemed to be lucky. I wasn't. It's was a fun adventure. Glad we did it and onward to the next adventure. Not sure what's next but whatever it is hopefully we will all be together.
